"Impacting rural education for students, rural communities, and their shared futures."

About Rural Caucus of Alberta School Boards
Welcome to the RCASB and the over 40 rural school boards it represents

The Rural Caucus of Alberta School Boards originated in 2016 to provide a unified voice that initially represented the shared concerns of twenty rural school divisions around the province. Transportation issues were at the heart of the meetings that the RCASB had with the Minister of Education at that time. Since then, transportation concerns remain a significant focus of the Rural Caucus and the over 40 rural school boards it represents. This past year Rural Caucus addressed concerns raised by its membership regarding learning loss, new curriculum implementation, budget-related private school funding, insurance and fuel costs related to transportation, and funding to support child wellness, development, and mental health.

At its 2022 Spring General Meeting, the Rural Caucus of Alberta School Boards committed to the creation of a website that would provide information about the meaningful work it is engaged in to support rural education and the school boards that provide governance to support it. As well, over time, the website will be populated with the exciting things that are taking place in rural Alberta schools and school divisions. A compilation of videos and updates showcasing flourishing schools around the province will provide an opportunity to showcase the many ways that rural schools and divisions are providing their students innovative and place-based learning that is meaningful and unique to rural education.

The Rural Caucus of Alberta School Boards logo has been designed using basically one continuous line. The line symbolizes the relationship that the land and its peoples have shared for as long as learning in its various forms has been an integral part of Alberta’s rural communities. Its more linear design represents the vast and varied topography of Alberta – the mountains, foothills, forests, and prairies.

The silhouette created by the line highlights various recognizable man-made structures that chronologically depict both past and present iterations of major influences on rural education in the province – Indigenous communities, ranching and farming, and natural resources.

Then, to signify our commitment to support, promote, and advocate for the interests of rural education, the continuous line ends with the sun rising over a schoolhouse symbolizing that a new day is dawning for rural education because of the ongoing efforts of the Rural Caucus of Alberta School Boards.
