In 2023-24 Wild Rose School Division started a new Indigenous Education program aimed at providing Indigenous cultural and educational support to all our students and staff through in-school Elder and Indigenous education expertise. This includes the provision of elbow-to-elbow support from Elders and two Indigenous Education Specialists to our teachers and in our classrooms. Within a few months we started to hear many success stories from our Indigenous Education Specialists:
"In general, I have witnessed students' successes on various levels. When working with whole group classes, I see positive connections being made to help uplift a positive view and understanding of Indigenous Peoples. Not only do I see Indigenous students feeling a sense of pride in their identity but I see many non-Indigenous students enjoying the content, stories, and activities which support reconciliation. Being present in classrooms and schools in turn creates opportunities to develop relationships and a positive understanding of Indigenous Peoples. When many students see me they always ask when will be the next time they get to work with me, ask to give me a hug, smile, wave and even greet me using a common Cree word "Tansi"."
